Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos du Meix 2020

Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos du Meix comes from a 0.7-hectare walled parcel at the western fringe of the village.

Clos du Meix is one of the smallest holdings in the Lamy range, planted between 1985 and 1995 and fully enclosed by a wall that shelters it from the cold northern winds. It sits just below Derrière chez Edouard in a naturally protected position, and its clays are heavier than those of the domaine's other Premier Cru sites. That combination of shelter and clay reliably gives the wine excellent texture, while the ground beneath keeps it taut: there is only thirty centimetres of clay-rich topsoil before the roots strike hard limestone, which is where the intense mineral character comes from. Olivier Lamy works the site by hand and raises the wine in used barrels, and the parcel has been performing at a notably high level in recent releases.

Best from three years and through the following decade. Serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, seared scallops or a soft-rind cheese.
