Description
Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos du Meix is a 0.7-hectare walled parcel on the western edge of the village, sheltered from the cold winds that shape the rest of the appellation.
Saint-Aubin’s combe funnels cold northern air down the valley, which is why most of its wines are so taut. Clos du Meix is the exception in the Lamy range: fully enclosed by a wall and tucked just below Derrière chez Edouard at 300 metres, it is a warmer, more protected site. The vines were planted between 1985 and 1995. Heavier clay in the topsoil adds texture, though there is only about 30 centimetres of it before the roots strike hard limestone, so the mineral intensity typical of the domaine is never lost. This is one of the cuvées that has improved most markedly over the past decade as Olivier Lamy has raised planting density and refined the farming, and it now sits among the better value in modern white Burgundy.
Textured and approachable from two years, holding eight or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled prawns or a creamy potato gratin.
