Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly comes from two hectares on the slope above Chevalier-Montrachet, offered here in 1.5-litre magnum.

En Remilly rises above the grand crus of the Côte de Beaune and is one of the few Saint-Aubin vineyards that works on a grand cru scale. Lamy’s holding, planted in 1989, falls into two clearly different parcels. One sits close to his Clos de la Chatenière vines on a loose mixture of clay and limestone; it is the warmer of the two and gives fleshy, layered fruit. The other is far rockier, on almost pure limestone, immediately adjacent to Chevalier-Montrachet, and it supplies the tension that cuts through. Blended, they deliver a marked step up in dimension, texture and power on the rest of the range while holding the cool, mineral, saline character that runs through all the domaine’s whites, and closing long, chalky and tightly wound.

Magnums slow the evolution further; allow four to eighteen years. Serve at 10-12°C with lobster, roast poultry or aged hard cheese.
