Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes is a premier cru white from vines dating back to 1935, offered here in 1.5-litre magnum.

Saint-Aubin occupies the side valley behind Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, and its premier crus have quietly become some of the most rewarding whites on the Côte de Beaune. Lamy holds 2.4 hectares in Les Frionnes, with plantings from 1935, 1960 and 1985. The site faces south-east, its topsoil covered in fragmented limestone over old decomposed limestone and clay. It sits alongside Derrière chez Edouard but is a shade warmer, so it ripens sooner and is picked earlier, giving pulpier fruit alongside vibrant, saline freshness and a compact, stony close. Olivier Lamy sums the vineyard up as having one foot in Chablis and one foot in the Côte de Beaune, which describes the balance between cut and flesh well.

Magnums move more slowly, so allow three to twelve years. Serve at 10-12°C with turbot, roast poultry or a Comté-heavy cheese board.
