Domaine Hubert Lamy Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières Rouge 2023

Domaine Hubert Lamy Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières Rouge comes from a 0.28-hectare parcel inside the clos, planted at an extreme density of 20,000 vines per hectare.

Clos des Gravières is a walled premier cru at Santenay, at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, and Olivier Lamy makes both a white and a red from his holding within it. The red comes from a tiny parcel of vines more than fifty years old. Lamy is known for high-density planting, and the vines here now stand at 20,000 per hectare, roughly double the Burgundian norm, which forces competition between them and produces very small berries and bunches. The canopies are not trimmed but wrapped down, a practice called tressage. The 2023 was vinified with 80% whole bunches, which brings perfume and fine-grained structure, and the wine keeps the purity and drinkability that characterise the domaine.

Approachable early and good for eight to ten years; serve with duck, roast pork or mushroom dishes at 16-18°C.
