Description
Domaine Hubert Lamy Santenay Clos des Hâtes Rouge comes from a walled village plot surrounded on all sides by Premier Cru vineyards.
Les Hâtes is one of the best village terroirs in Santenay, ringed by 1er Cru sites, and Lamy's 0.67-hectare plot lies in the heart of the climat within the original walled vineyard. Its nineteenth-century owner was a certain M. Duvault-Blochet, who at the same time owned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Most of the fruit comes from younger vines massale-selected in 1999 from the vineyards of d'Angerville and Henri Boillot and planted on rootstock that yields very small berries and bunches; there is also a parcel of older vines in the blend. The wine was vinified with 50 per cent whole bunches and received no sulphur addition until bottling, a low-intervention approach Olivier Lamy now applies across his reds.
Approachable early and good for eight years. Serve at 16–18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
