Domaine Hubert Lignier Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru MAGNUM 2021

Domaine Hubert Lignier Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, bottled in magnum, is a red Burgundy built solely from Pinot Noir grown inside the walled vineyard it takes its name from.

Cistercian monks raised the first wall around this enclosure centuries ago, and it remains the biggest of the Côte de Nuits grand crus. Soils change as the ground falls away across the slope, which goes some way to explaining the broad, generous character the fruit takes on here. The family behind the bottling works out of Morey-Saint-Denis and farms parcels dotted through several prized appellations. The next generation runs the domaine now, hands-on through the season and gentle in the cellar, so each site speaks for itself in the glass.

Expect a polished red with the structure for long cellaring. Pour it at around 16°C after a decant, with roast game, duck or a mature hard cheese. The large format makes it one to open for a table of people.
