Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux 2003 Museum Release

Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Museum Release is a sweet Chenin Blanc from a monopole vineyard, held back and shipped direct from the domaine's cellar.

Clos du Bourg sits on the Première Côte immediately above the town of Vouvray and is generally considered the finest of Huet's three single vineyards. The domaine has farmed it since 1953 and bought it in 1963. There is only about a metre of topsoil over solid limestone, so the vines tap into the rock almost at once; that, with the warmth of the site, gives wines that combine concentration and texture with mineral drive, and which age for decades. Huet's moelleux bottlings usually carry between 40 and 60 grams per litre of residual sugar, made chiefly from grapes dried on the vine by passerillage rather than from botrytis, which keeps them fresher and lighter on their feet than their sugar levels suggest. This bottle was cellared at the domaine and shipped directly.

Fully mature and drinking now, though in no hurry. Serve at 8-10°C with foie gras, a washed-rind cheese or a simple apple tart.
