Description
Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux is a sweet Chenin Blanc from the estate's monopole above the town of Vouvray.
Clos du Bourg sits on the Première Côte, the bank of limestone hillside overlooking the Loire, and is generally held to be the finest of Huet's three vineyards. The domaine has farmed it since 1953 and bought it in 1963. There is only about a metre of topsoil over solid limestone, so the vines reach the rock almost immediately, and the warmth of the site combined with that mineral base gives wines of real concentration and very long life. Huet's moelleux bottlings usually carry between 40 and 60 g/L residual sugar, and the sweetness comes chiefly from passerillage, grapes dried on the vine, rather than from botrytis. The result is closer in weight and cut to a fine Mosel than to a Sauternes.
Drinkable now and capable of decades in bottle. Serve at 8-10°C with blue cheese, pork belly or a spiced duck dish rather than a sugary dessert.
