Description
Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie is made only in the ripest years, from a berry-by-berry selection of the very ripest fruit.
Clos du Bourg is a monopole on the Première Côte just above the town of Vouvray, farmed by Huet since 1953 and bought in 1963, and it is usually held to be the greatest of the domaine's three vineyards. A single metre of topsoil covers solid limestone, so the roots reach the rock quickly, and the warmth of the site combined with that mineral base produces wines of both concentration and considerable length. Huet's moelleux wines generally hold between 40 and 60 grams per litre of residual sugar and are made mainly from grapes dried on the vine by passerillage. In the best seasons a sweeter première trie is picked, selecting the ripest berries individually, often including botrytis-affected fruit, which raises both sugar and intensity while the underlying acidity holds the wine in balance.
Approachable now but capable of decades in the cellar. Serve at 8-10°C with foie gras, Roquefort or a tarte tatin.
