Description
Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec is the dry bottling from the monopole vineyard above the town, where a metre of topsoil covers solid limestone.
Vouvray runs along the right bank of the Loire east of Tours, and Chenin Blanc here is made in every register from bone dry to richly sweet, the decision taken each year according to what the fruit allows. Clos du Bourg is a walled monopole on the Première Côte, farmed by Huet since 1953 and purchased in 1963, and it is generally regarded as the best of the domaine's three sites. The shallow topsoil over limestone means the vines root into rock almost immediately, and the warmth of the position combined with that mineral base gives wines of unusual power for a dry white, along with the capacity to age for a very long time. The dry version is made without oak influence dominating, so the site speaks plainly.
Worth three to five years and capable of much longer. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast pork or a Loire goat's cheese.
