Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec 375ml 2022

Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec is a dry Chenin Blanc from the first vineyard the domaine ever owned, offered here in half bottle.

Vouvray sits on the right bank of the Loire east of Tours, its vines planted over tuffeau limestone. Le Haut-Lieu was Huet's founding parcel, bought in 1928, and lies on the Première Côte where the house and cellars stand on a plateau with a gentle south-facing tilt at one of the highest points of the appellation. The nine-hectare plot is on deep brown chalky clay known locally as aubuis, with the tuffeau bedrock as much as four metres down. That richer soil gives rounder, suppler wines that drink well earlier than the domaine's other cuvées, though bottles from the 1940s are still going. Huet's dry wines usually carry between 4 and 8 g/L of residual sugar, and recent vintages have come in closer to 3 g/L.

Attractive young and safely cellared for twenty years or more. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, roast pork or a plate of freshwater fish.
