Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Demi-Sec 2022

Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Demi-Sec is the off-dry bottling from the stoniest and most tightly wound of the estate's three vineyards.

Le Mont has been named among the best sites in Vouvray since the fifteenth century, and was known locally as Perruches for the greenish clay scattered with perrons, the fist-sized flints that litter it. Huet bought the steep eight-hectare vineyard in 1957. It lies on the Première Côte, the band of limestone hillside overlooking Tours, and its argilo-siliceux soils, with less clay and more stone than Le Haut-Lieu, are behind the tight structure and pungent minerality the site is known for. This is where the estate makes its nerviest wines, and the vineyard is given over mostly to dry and off-dry styles. Huet's demi-sec bottlings typically carry 18 to 25 g/L residual sugar, though the acidity leaves them tasting only just off dry.

Drinking now and likely to improve for twenty years or more. Serve at 10°C with Sichuan or Thai dishes, roast quail or a mature cheddar.
