Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux 2003 Museum Release

Domaine Huet's Le Mont Moelleux, released from the domaine's own cellars with two decades of age, is a sweet Chenin Blanc from Vouvray's Première Côte.

Le Mont is a steep, rocky eight-hectare vineyard bought by the Huet family in 1957, part of the bank of limestone-rich hillside vineyards looking over Tours that makes up the Première Côte. Its argilo-siliceux soils — stony, with green mineral clays and flint over limestone — give the tight structure and pungent minerality the site is known for. It carries less clay than Le Haut-Lieu, of a different type, and a great deal more stone, so Le Mont produces the nerviest wines in the Huet range and is usually kept for dry and off-dry bottlings, with a moelleux made only when the season delivers the ripeness. Huet's sweet wines are built mainly on grapes dried on the vine by passerillage rather than on botrytis, which keeps them finer and more delicate than most sweet whites. A museum release means the bottle was cellared at the domaine rather than passing through the trade.

Fully mature but in no hurry at all. Serve at 8–10°C with blue cheese, foie gras or roast pork with apple.
