Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux Première Trie is a sweet Chenin Blanc from a berry-by-berry selection of the ripest fruit.

Le Mont has been recognised since the fifteenth century as one of the most distinguished sites in Vouvray and was known locally as Perruches, the name for its greenish clay flecked with perrons, fist-sized flints. Domaine Huet bought the steep, rocky eight-hectare vineyard in 1957. It lies on the Première Côte, part of the limestone-rich hillside overlooking Tours, and its argilo-siliceux soils give the tight structure and pungent minerality the site is known for. With less clay and more stone than Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont produces the nerviest wines in the Huet stable and is mostly given over to dry and off-dry styles. The estate's moelleux wines carry between 40 and 60 grams per litre of residual sugar and are made largely from grapes dried on the vine by passerillage rather than botrytis. In the best years a sweeter première trie is made from a berry-by-berry selection of the very ripest fruit.

Delicate rather than heavy, closer to a fine Mosel than a Sauternes, and built to age for decades. Serve at 8-10°C with blue cheese, roast pork or foie gras.
