Domaine Jaeger Defaix Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux Blanc 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Les Cloux holds the oldest vines at Jaeger-Defaix, planted in 1944, and this Rully 1er Cru is bottled in magnum.

Les Cloux lies just south of Rully village with a south-easterly aspect, on the better part of the 1er Cru slope overlooking the plain of the Saône. The soils are the classic Burgundian mix of clay and limestone. The domaine's parcel has been managed organically since 2009 and its vines, now eighty years old, crop very little. Within the appellation Les Cloux has a reputation for balancing mouth-filling flesh with tangy grip and length, and the winemaking is set up to keep both: the Chardonnay is fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for twelve months in older barrels of up to seven years of age, then settled in stainless steel before bottling. No new oak is used, so the fruit and the saline finish carry the wine.

Drink from two years to about eight, longer in magnum; serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, scallops or soft cheese.
