Domaine Jaeger Defaix Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux Blanc 2022

Domaine Jaeger-Defaix Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux Blanc is made from the domaine’s oldest vines, planted in 1944 and organically managed since 2009.

Rully is the northernmost of the Côte Chalonnaise villages and the one most given over to Chardonnay. Les Cloux lies just south of the village with south-easterly exposure, on the middle band of the premier cru slope looking out over the plain of the Saône. Hélène Jaeger-Defaix farms her oldest parcel here, planted in 1944 on the clay and limestone mix common to Burgundy’s better sites, and the vines have been worked organically since 2009. Les Cloux has a reputation within Rully for balancing mouthwatering flesh against tangy grip and fine length. This wine ferments with indigenous yeasts and matures for twelve months in older barrels, some as much as seven years old, before settling in stainless steel. It is silky and textural, long and focused, with a salty-savoury close. Sealed under Diam.

Drinking well now and over the next four or five years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled snapper or a mushroom tart.
