Domaine Jaeger Defaix Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux Blanc 2023

Domaine Jaeger Defaix Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux Blanc is made from the estate’s oldest vines, planted in 1944.

Rully is the northernmost of the Côte Chalonnaise villages, and Les Cloux lies just south of the village with a south-easterly exposure looking out over the plain of the Saône — the prime cut of the Rully premier cru. It holds Jaeger Defaix’s oldest plantings, put in during 1944 on the clay and limestone mix that underpins the better sites throughout Burgundy, and those vines have been managed organically since 2009. Within Rully, Les Cloux is known for balancing mouthwatering flesh with tangy grip and fine length. This is entirely Chardonnay, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 12 months in older barrels of up to seven years before settling in stainless steel. It is sealed under Diam.

Drinking now and worth five to eight years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, seared scallops or a soft washed-rind cheese.
