Description
Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Auxey-Duresses Blanc is a white Burgundy from a side valley tucked behind the great slope of the Côte de Beaune.
Auxey-Duresses sits in the combe that runs west from Monthelie, sharing its valley with Saint-Romain and looking out towards Meursault. The setting is higher and cooler than the main slope, and the village makes both red and white; the whites, from Chardonnay, have long been a source of value for drinkers who follow Meursault's prices with dismay. Limestone and marl underlie the vineyards, and the best parcels face east and south-east to catch the morning sun. The domaine is based in Volnay, a short distance over the hill, where Thomas Bouley makes the wines with his father Jean-Marc. A great deal of the village's wine was once sold simply as Côte de Beaune-Villages, which is part of why the name remains less familiar than those of its neighbours.
Best served at around 12 degrees with roast chicken, white fish or a creamy soft cheese.
