Description
Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Pommard is a red Burgundy from the sturdiest of the Côte de Beaune villages.
Pommard sits between Beaune and Volnay and, like Volnay, makes red wine only from Pinot Noir. Its soils carry more clay and more iron than those of its neighbours, and the wines have a long-standing reputation as the firmest and most structured on this stretch of the Côte de Beaune. The village has no grand cru, but its premiers crus Les Rugiens and Les Épenots are celebrated, and Rugiens-Bas is regularly mentioned as a candidate for promotion. The Bouley family farms in both Pommard and Volnay, where Thomas Bouley now makes the wines with his father Jean-Marc. The name of the village is generally thought to derive from Pomona, the Roman goddess of orchards and fruit.
It stands up to braised beef, game birds, venison or a well-aged hard cheese, and it usually benefits from a few years in bottle.
