Domaine La Barroche Châteauneuf-du-Pape Julien Barrot 375ml 2022

Domaine La Barroche Châteauneuf-du-Pape Julien Barrot is a Grenache led red from a family estate holding some of the oldest vines in the appellation.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape sits on the left bank of the Rhône between Orange and Avignon, on a patchwork of soils that includes the famous galets roulés, rounded quartzite stones dropped by the ancient river, along with sand and red clay. Grenache dominates almost every blend, given structure by Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Barrot family has farmed here for generations and works a fragmented holding of old vines, with a significant block of very old Grenache on sand in the northern sector. Fermentation is done with indigenous yeasts and a restrained extraction, and the wine is raised largely in used oak and larger vessels rather than new barriques, keeping the emphasis on fruit and texture.

Warm, full and generous with soft tannin, it suits lamb, grilled red meat, herb driven stews and daube; serve at seventeen to eighteen degrees.
