Domaine La Soumade Rasteau 2023

Domaine La Soumade Rasteau is a full-bodied southern Rhône red, mostly Grenache with Syrah in support.

Rasteau lies in the hills north-east of Orange, near Cairanne and Gigondas, and became a cru for dry red wine in 2010. Its south-facing slopes of clay and limestone, red sandstone and galets are warm and well drained, and Grenache ripens fully there. André Romero built the domaine and now runs it with his son Frédéric; the name has been tied closely to the appellation for decades. Fermentation is in concrete and tank with a long maceration, then the wine matures in tank and older oak.

Deep and warm, with dark fruit, garrigue and ripe but substantial tannin. Decant young bottles and serve at 16-18°C with slow-cooked lamb, beef daube, grilled meats or hard sheep's cheese.
