Description
Domaine La Suffrène Bandol Blanc is an even split of Clairette and Ugni Blanc, the small white corner of an estate far better known in Bandol for its rosé and red.
Cédric Gravier took over his grandfather's vines at La Cadière-d'Azur in 1996, left the local co-operative and built a cellar of his own. The family has worked this ground for over a century, across clay-limestone plots scattered through five villages; conversion to organic farming began in 2018 and the wines were certified in 2021. White makes up only a sliver of production. Ugni Blanc goes straight to press, the Clairette steeps in that juice for a day, and malolactic fermentation is blocked to hold the acidity this warm stretch of Provence gives up slowly.
Expect white peach and apricot first, then citrus blossom and a flick of fennel. It turns creamy through the middle before a saline, mineral line and bright acidity pull it tight again. Serve at 11–12°C and try it with grilled prawns, mussels in a saffron broth, or a proper bouillabaisse.
