Domaine Laroque D'Antan IGP Côtes du Lot Néphèle Blanc 2021

Domaine Laroque d’Antan IGP Côtes du Lot Néphèle Blanc comes from an ancient limestone vineyard near Cahors that had been swallowed by forest until the Bourguignon family found it.

In 2005 the soil scientists Claude and Lydia Bourguignon came across the ruins of an old vineyard at Laroque-des-Arcs, five kilometres from Cahors, abandoned in all likelihood after phylloxera swept through in the 1870s. Over the years that followed the family restored the terraces and the vineyard from the ground up, and between 2012 and today they have completed several campaigns of field grafting, a far slower and more physical business than bench grafting. The lower terraces carry red varieties; the whites sit on the upper limestone causse and are made up of massale-selection Sauvignon Blanc sourced from Cotat and Dagueneau, Sauvignon Gris, and two old south-western varieties, Mauzac and Verdanel, taken from Domaine Plageoles in Gaillac. The wine is bottled as IGP Côtes du Lot, since no appellation covers whites from this ground.

Satiny and long, and best over the next five to eight years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast pork or a fresh goat’s cheese.
