Description
Domaine Le Guellec-Ducouet Gevrey-Chambertin '93' is a village red from the Côte de Nuits, from the commune that carries more grand cru vineyard than any other in Burgundy.
Gevrey-Chambertin lies at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits and is the largest wine commune of the Côte d'Or, with nine grands crus at its heart, Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze foremost among them. Vines have been worked here since at least the seventh century, when the abbey of Bèze held land on the slope. Village wines come from a broad spread of sites, the stony alluvial fan below the Combe de Lavaux, the limestone slopes above the village and the deeper soils on the flat, all planted to Pinot Noir. The style is traditional Burgundian: hand picking, fermentation in open vats and maturation in French oak barrels.
A classic match for duck, game birds, mushroom dishes and washed-rind cheeses; serve at around 16 degrees. Village Gevrey generally drinks well from about five years and holds for a decade.
