Description
Domaine Le Guellec-Ducouet Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Champs is a named-parcel village red from Gevrey-Chambertin, the largest and most celebrated commune of the Côte de Nuits.
Gevrey-Chambertin sits at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, where the Combe de Lavaux cuts back into the hillside and spreads a fan of stony, well drained soil across the vineyard land below. The commune holds nine grands crus, among them Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, and its reputation runs back to the abbey of Bèze, which held vineyard here in the seventh century. Bottling a village wine from a single named parcel is a Burgundian tradition of long standing, a way of showing what one piece of ground gives. Pinot Noir is the only red grape permitted, hand picked, fermented in open vats and raised in French oak.
Serve at around 16 degrees with roast duck, guinea fowl, mushrooms or a soft washed-rind cheese. A few years in the cellar will do it good, and it should keep comfortably for a decade.
