Description
Domaine Les Pallières Les Racines Gigondas is one of two cuvées drawn from a single historic estate beneath the Dentelles de Montmirail.
Gigondas earned its own appellation in 1971, stepping up from Cotes du Rhone Villages, and it remains a Grenache-led red of real substance, grown on limestone scree and clay at the foot of the Dentelles. Les Pallières is among the oldest properties in the commune, and since 1998 it has been owned by the Brunier brothers of Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe together with the American importer Kermit Lynch. They divided the estate's output into two bottlings drawn from different parts of the vineyard, of which Les Racines is one, with Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette joining the Grenache. Fermentation is traditional and ageing takes place in large old wood rather than new barrels.
Decant and serve at 16 to 18C with lamb, grilled meats, daube or hard sheep's cheese; it will reward five to ten years in the cellar.
