Domaine Maire & Fils Grand Minéral Côtes du Jura Pinot Noir is a fine, fresh red from the hills of the Jura in eastern France.

The domaine is based around Arbois, the historic wine capital of the Jura, a small, cool region wedged between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Vines here grow on slopes of marl and limestone, and as the Grand Minéral name suggests, the focus of this range is on that soil. Pinot Noir has been grown in the Jura for centuries alongside the local Poulsard and Trousseau, and it tends to give lighter, finely structured reds with a savoury edge. The supplier notes a deep, clear ruby colour, delicate small wild berry aromas and a round, smooth palate where elegant tannins sit in balance with the fruit.

A light chill suits it, at around 14 to 16 degrees. Try it with Comté, roast poultry, a pork terrine or a mushroom tart, and drink it over the next few years while the fruit is fresh.
