Description

Domaine Maire & Fils Grand Minéral Côtes du Jura Pinot Noir is a light, fragrant red from the Jura, the small region of foothills between Burgundy and Switzerland.

Based in Arbois, this is the largest vineyard owner in the Jura, built up in the twentieth century by Henri Maire, whose family had grown vines in the area for generations, and now part of the Boisset family's group of estates. The Grand Minéral range takes its name from the marl and limestone soils that run through the region's hillsides. Pinot Noir is one of the Jura's three red grapes and here it is made in a clear, fruit-first style, round and smooth with fine tannins. Expect a lighter frame than most Australian Pinot, with the savoury, earthy edge that makes Jura reds so good at the table.

Serve slightly cool, around 14 to 15 degrees. Charcuterie, roast chicken, mushroom dishes, grilled salmon and Comté or Morbier cheese are natural matches. Drink it over the next three to five years while the fruit is at its freshest.
