Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre comes from a single hectare in the lieu-dit Chapelot, separated from the grand cru Blanchot only by a narrow ravine.

Montée de Tonnerre is widely held to be the finest of the Chablis premiers crus, sitting on the right bank of the Serein in line with the grand cru slope. Its topsoil is sandy and rocky, rich in the Kimmeridgian limestone that gives Chablis its structure and salinity. The parcel behind this wine lies within Chapelot, the sub-climat closest to Blanchot, and covers two contiguous plots, one of fifty-year-old vines and a second replanted more recently. Moreau-Naudet keeps yields low, ferments with indigenous yeasts and raises the premier crus in a mixture of stainless steel and used barrels of various sizes, with élevage now extended to two years. Oak here is a matter of texture rather than flavour. This is consistently the most chalky and powerful wine in the domaine's premier cru range, and one of the smallest in volume.

In magnum this will hold and improve for a decade. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, grilled snapper or roast chicken.
