Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is drawn from a hectare in the lieu-dit Chapelot, separated from Grand Cru Les Blanchots by a narrow ravine, and is bottled here in magnum.

Montée de Tonnerre is generally reckoned the finest of the Chablis premier crus, sitting on the same right bank of the Serein as the Grand Crus and sharing much of their aspect. The topsoil is sandy and rocky, rich in the Kimmeridgian limestone and fossil shell that gives Chablis its saline drive. The estate at Chablis, founded by Stéphane Moreau and now run by Virginie Moreau, works with low yields, long lees ageing and old barrels. The holding here covers two contiguous plots, one of fifty-year-old vines and a second replanted more recently. The wine that results is concentrated and layered, earthy and mineral in the way the best examples of this vineyard are, with more flesh than Chablis is often given credit for.

Best from three years and capable of ten or more in magnum, it suits oysters, grilled fish and roast chicken. Serve at 10 to 12°C.
