Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre comes from a hectare in the Chapelot lieu-dit, separated from Grand Cru Blanchot by a narrow ravine.

Montée de Tonnerre is widely held to be the finest of the Chablis Premiers Crus, sitting on the same right-bank slope as the Grands Crus. Its topsoil is sandy and rocky, rich in the Kimmeridgian limestone that gives Chablis its saline cut. The Moreau-Naudet parcel lies within Chapelot, the section closest to Blanchot, and covers two continuous plots: one of fifty-year-old vines and a second more recently replanted. This is regularly the most mineral, chalky, deep and powerful Premier Cru in the domaine's range, and one of the most limited in quantity. Vinification here is deliberately undemonstrative, leaving the site to speak: there is thrilling clarity, a chalky palate that manages to be both intense and elegant, and a long, stony close.

Give it three years and drink over the following decade. Serve at 10–12°C with oysters, scallops or grilled white fish.
