Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Domaine Moreau-Naudet's Chablis Grand Cru Valmur comes from a horse-worked 0.6-hectare parcel planted in 1978, bottled here in magnum.

Valmur covers around 12 hectares and forms a small valley in the heart of the grand cru slope, wedged between Vaudésir and Grenouilles on one side and Les Clos on the other. The site turns very cold in winter and hotter than average in summer, and it gives some of the most authoritative wines in Chablis, with real depth and power. Moreau-Naudet's parcel lies next to Raveneau's vines but is cooler and more shaded, and the slope is steep; together those factors account for the strong saline, mineral imprint that runs through the texture. The vines date from 1978 and the ground is worked by horse. The cuvée is now vinified without oak, in small stainless-steel barrels, which keeps fruit and chalk in the foreground. It is sealed under Diam, and the magnum format will hold it back further.

Worth three to five years and capable of a great deal longer at this size. Serve with lobster, roast turbot or veal in a cream sauce at 10–12°C.
