Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2022

Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is made without oak, in small stainless steel barrels, from a parcel worked by horse.

Valmur covers around twelve hectares and forms a small valley in the middle of the grand cru slope, wedged between Vaudésir and Grenouilles on one side and Les Clos on the other. The site is notably cold in winter and hotter than average in summer, and it has a reputation for the most authoritative and deeply structured wines of the seven grand crus. Moreau-Naudet farms a 0.6-hectare plot planted in 1978, next door to the Raveneau vines but cooler and more shaded, and the steepness of the slope adds to the saline, mineral imprint that runs through the wine. Vinification in steel leaves that imprint unobscured, and the depth and texture come from the site rather than from wood.

Best given three to five years and capable of fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with lobster, turbot or a rich seafood chowder.
