Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Les Pargues Vieilles Vignes 2021

Domaine Moreau-Naudet Les Pargues is a village Chablis from a lieu-dit that sits between two premiers crus and, by local reckoning, should have been one itself.

Les Pargues occupies a ridge between the Montmains and Vosgros premiers crus and shares its exposure with Vaillons and Montmains. The story told in Chablis is that it was classified as a premier cru before the appellation system was formalised, then largely abandoned during the war when labour was short, and so missed out when the AOC boundaries were drawn. Whatever the accuracy of that, growers speak highly of the site: the position and thin, stony soils give a wine of real intensity. Moreau-Naudet's parcel here is tiny, the vines average more than 50 years, and yields of 15 to 25 hectolitres per hectare are typical. Vinification used about 20 per cent barrel, enough to broaden the texture without covering the site.

Drinking well now and will reward six to ten years. Serve at 10-12°C with scallops, roast pork or a mature comté.
