Description
Lamarche's Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits comes from a single east-facing parcel at Concœur, in the hills directly above Vosne-Romanée.
The Hautes-Côtes de Nuits sits in the plateau country behind the Côte d'Or proper, higher, cooler and later-ripening than the famous slope below, which historically made it a marginal place to grow Pinot Noir and now, in warmer seasons, makes it an increasingly useful one. The Lamarche holding runs to 1.5 hectares in the hamlet of Concœur above Vosne, planted in 1979 on limestone-rich soils and facing due east, so the vines take the morning sun. The 2019 was fermented with thirty per cent whole bunches and matured mostly in used barriques, the same approach the domaine takes with its grand crus, which is unusual attention for a regional appellation. The wine is lighter in frame than the village and premier cru bottlings but shares their perfume.
Ready on release and good for five years. Serve at 16-18°C, or lightly chilled, with charcuterie, roast chicken or mushrooms on toast.
