Domaine Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru Echézeaux 2019

Lamarche's Echézeaux is assembled from three lieux-dits within the grand cru, totalling about 1.3 hectares of vines averaging thirty years.

Echézeaux is the largest grand cru of Vosne-Romanée, made up of eleven named climats whose soils and exposures differ enough that most growers blend several. The Lamarche holding draws on Les Cruots ou Vignes Blanches, Clos-Saint-Denis and Les Champs Traversins, spread across the vineyard. Nicole Lamarche, who has run the domaine since 2007, works with very low yields here, and combined with the estate's deliberately delicate extraction that gives a wine built on lace rather than muscle. Jasper Morris has written that it has almost as much to offer as the domaine's Grands Echézeaux; the latter carries more weight and power, but the Echézeaux is particularly elegant in its immaculate style. It remains among the more fairly priced grand crus in the Côte de Nuits.

Approachable from four or five years and good for fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a mild soft cheese.
