Domaine Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru Grands Echézeaux 2019

Nicole Lamarche's Grands Echézeaux comes from a 0.3-hectare parcel planted in 1979, just below the climat of Echézeaux du Dessus.

Grands Echézeaux is the smaller and more consistent of the two Echézeaux grand crus, a single block of about nine hectares lying between Clos de Vougeot and Echézeaux proper, on shallower soil over limestone. It is generally held to give more structure and more depth than its larger neighbour without sacrificing the perfume of Vosne. The domaine, founded by the Lamarche family and run since 2007 by Nicole Lamarche, farms a small parcel here directly beneath Echézeaux du Dessus, planted at the end of the 1970s. The house style favours whole-bunch fermentation in part, gentle extraction and restrained new oak, so the wines are built on finesse rather than force, and this cuvée carries the extra frame of the site without losing that delicacy.

Best from five to eight years and good for twenty. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, beef fillet with mushrooms or a soft washed-rind cheese.
