Domaine Nicole Lamarche Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes 2019

Les Chaumes is a Vosne-Romanée premier cru sitting directly below Aux Malconsorts and La Tâche, where Lamarche owns half a hectare.

Les Chaumes lies on the lower part of the slope at the southern end of Vosne-Romanée, on deeper, gravellier soil than the grand crus immediately above it, which tends to give wines of perfume and suppleness rather than structure. Its position beneath Aux Malconsorts and La Tâche is about as good as a premier cru address gets. The Lamarche vines here are now between thirty and forty years old across a solid half-hectare. At this address the site produces an extremely fine-boned, perfumed and sensual Vosne, in keeping with the delicate extraction and restrained oak that Nicole Lamarche favours across the range. Like the rest of the domaine's 2019s, it was fermented with thirty per cent whole bunches, which adds lift without adding weight.

Drinking from three or four years and good for a dozen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom tart or a mild washed-rind cheese.
