Domaine Pichot Vouvray Clos Berger 2023

Pichot Vouvray Clos Berger is an off-dry Chenin Blanc from a walled parcel on the Vouvray coteau, bottled under cork.

Domaine Pichot works the first slope of Vouvray on the right bank of the Loire east of Tours, where clay and flint sit over tuffeau limestone and Chenin Blanc is the only permitted grape. The estate farms bio-dynamically, ploughing between the rows and tending the vines by hand. Clos Berger is one of the walled parcels the domaine bottles separately, finished with thirteen grams of residual sugar, a level that reads as barely off-dry against Vouvray's acidity and gives the wine flesh in the middle of the palate. Cork rather than screwcap is used on these single-site wines, which are made to develop in bottle over the long span Chenin Blanc allows.

Barely off-dry with real drive; serve at 10 to 12 degrees with roast pork, terrines or firm cheeses.
