Domaine Pichot Vouvray Clos Cartaud 2022

Pichot Vouvray Clos Cartaud is a dry single-vineyard Chenin Blanc bottled under cork at three grams of residual sugar.

Vouvray sits on the right bank of the Loire east of Tours, a plateau of clay and flint capping the tuffeau limestone that gives the region its cellars and its building stone. Domaine Pichot farms on the first slope above the village and works its holdings bio-dynamically, ploughing between the rows and treating the vineyard by hand. Clos Cartaud is a walled single-vineyard bottling kept separate from the domaine's larger cuvées and finished at three grams of residual sugar, effectively dry. Where the estate's screwcapped wines are made for early drinking, the cork-sealed parcel wines like this one are bottled with cellaring in mind and reward several years of patience.

Dry, firm and slow to open; serve at 11 to 12 degrees with roast chicken, pork or river fish in butter.
