Domaine Pichot Vouvray Electron Libre 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Pichot Vouvray Electron Libre is a barrel aged, fully dry Chenin Blanc from the tuffeau limestone of Vouvray, offered in magnum.

Vouvray sits on the right bank of the Loire east of Tours, where Chenin Blanc is planted on a thin clay and flint topsoil over tuffeau, the soft Turonian limestone that the region's cellars are cut into. Domaine Pichot farms in the appellation and bottles this cuvée as a dry wine: fermentation is taken right out, leaving one gram per litre of residual sugar, and the wine is raised in barrel rather than tank. Ageing on lees in wood broadens the texture of a grape whose defining feature is high acidity, while the chalk subsoil keeps the finish firm and saline.

Dry and textural with Chenin's cutting acidity underneath, it suits pork rillettes, river fish in butter, and goat cheese; serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
