Description
Pierre Gaillard's Saint-Joseph rouge is drawn from several parcels in the high country of Malleval and Chavanay, at the far northern end of the appellation.
Saint-Joseph sprawls along the right bank of the northern Rhône, and the northern sector where these vines sit is closer to Vienne and Condrieu than to Tournon-sur-Rhône. The slopes here are steep and cool, and the soils carry plenty of granite, which contributes the mineral cut that marks this perfumed and vibrant style of Syrah. Gaillard is one of the established growers of the northern Rhône, with holdings across Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph. Each parcel is vinified separately, ageing is mostly in used Allier and Nevers barrels for 18 months so that the wood frames rather than flavours the wine, and it is bottled unfiltered.
Approachable on release and good for five to eight years; serve at 16-18°C with grilled lamb cutlets, charcuterie or roast vegetables.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
