Description
Domaine Pierre Labet Beaune clos du dessus des Marconnets Blanc is a white Burgundy from a walled parcel on the upper slope at the northern edge of Beaune.
Les Marconnets is a premier cru at the northern end of Beaune, on the Savigny-les-Beaune boundary, and the Dessus des Marconnets is the land above it, higher on the slope where the soils are thinner and stonier. Beaune is much better known for red wine, so white from the commune is comparatively rare. The town is the commercial heart of Burgundy, home to the Hospices and its November auction, and its vineyards run in a broad arc above the rooftops. Domaine Pierre Labet is based in Beaune and is run by Francois Labet, who also directs Chateau de la Tour in the Clos de Vougeot; the domaine carries his father's name. The vineyards are farmed organically. The white is whole-bunch pressed, fermented and raised in oak barrels with a restrained proportion of new wood, and left on its lees before bottling.
Serve at about 11 to 12 degrees with roast chicken, pork, river fish or a soft cheese.
