Description
Domaine Pierre Labet Beaune clos du dessus des Marconnets Rouge is a red Burgundy from a walled parcel high on the slope at the northern edge of Beaune.
Les Marconnets is a premier cru at the northern end of Beaune, on the Savigny-les-Beaune boundary, and the Dessus des Marconnets is the land above it, higher on the slope where the soils are thinner and stonier. Beaune is the commercial heart of Burgundy, home to the Hospices and its November auction, and the town is ringed by vineyards planted mostly to Pinot Noir. Domaine Pierre Labet is based in Beaune and is run by Francois Labet, who also directs Chateau de la Tour in the Clos de Vougeot; the domaine carries his father's name. The vineyards are farmed organically. The reds are fermented with a share of whole bunches and gentle extraction, then raised in oak barrels with new wood used sparingly. Higher, stonier sites of this kind hold their freshness well in warm seasons.
A good match for roast duck, pork, mushroom dishes and softer cheeses, served at about 15 to 16 degrees.
