Description
Domaine Pierre Labet Meursault Les Tillets is a white Burgundy from a vineyard set high on the slope above Meursault's premier crus.
Meursault is the largest white wine commune of the Cote d'Or and, unusually for a village of its stature, has no grand cru. Les Tillets lies at the top of the slope, above the classified band, on thin soils over limestone at a noticeably higher and cooler elevation than the vineyards below it. The site ripens later and has long been valued by growers for the tension it keeps, a quality that has become more sought after as seasons have warmed. Domaine Pierre Labet is based in Beaune and is run by Francois Labet, who also directs Chateau de la Tour in the Clos de Vougeot; the domaine carries his father's name. The vineyards are farmed organically. The whites are whole-bunch pressed, fermented and matured in oak barrels with a modest proportion of new wood, and left on lees before bottling.
Serve at around 12 degrees with poultry in cream, scallops, turbot or aged Comte; it will also keep well for several years.
