Description

Domaine Plageoles Gaillac Le Braucol is a single-variety red from Fer Servadou, the grape the Gaillacais call Braucol.

Gaillac in the South West is one of the oldest wine regions in France and is unusual for the number of local varieties it has kept alive, a cause the Plageoles family has championed for three generations. Braucol is the local name for Fer Servadou, known as Mansois further west in Marcillac. This bottling comes from a parcel of 30- to 35-year-old vines on clay and limestone. Florent Plageoles now vinifies it with about half the fruit going through carbonic maceration, which lifts the aromatics and makes the wine noticeably more drinkable young. Yields are kept low for concentration, ageing takes place in cement tank alone, and the wine is bottled without filtration. The result sits somewhere between Beaujolais and Loire Cabernet Franc in spirit, red and blue fruited but with a savoury spine and assertive, tactile tannins.

Best in its first five years and good lightly chilled. Serve at 15-16°C with charcuterie, roast duck or a mushroom tart.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
