Domaine Ponsot Grand Cru Chapelle-Chambertin 2020

Domaine Ponsot Grand Cru Chapelle-Chambertin comes from 0.47 hectares in the Gémeaux lieu-dit, a parcel the domaine has bottled since 1970.

Chapelle-Chambertin lies on the flatter ground below Clos de Bèze at the northern end of Gevrey-Chambertin, and it takes its name from a chapel destroyed during the Revolution. Ponsot's holding sits in Gémeaux, bordering Cherbaudes and En la Chapelle, which in turn abuts En Griotte. The soils there are poor and notably rocky, a combination that tends to give wines of pronounced minerality and long life rather than early flesh. The vines were replanted in 1990. The domaine, one of the oldest in Morey-Saint-Denis and long known for late picking and neutral élevage, now gives this cuvée a longer time on skins with gentler extraction than in the past, which has made the wine more supple in its youth without costing it structure.

Cellar for eight to ten years and drink over the following fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, game birds or a mushroom and truffle pasta.
