Description
Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes is the domaine's flagship, made from the largest holding in the grand cru and some of its oldest vines.
Clos de la Roche is the senior grand cru of Morey-Saint-Denis, and Ponsot is famously its largest landowner, holding almost three hectares of the original 4.5-hectare Clos itself. When the appellation was expanded in the 1950s it absorbed a range of neighbouring sites including Les Fremières, Les Genevrières, Les Mochamps and Monts Luisants, and the original ground is still widely considered the finest part of it. The rest of the domaine's holding lies in Monts Luisants, which shares the same soil but sits higher on the slope and has always been bottled as Clos de la Roche; its fruit adds freshness to the natural power of the old Clos. Vines here average around 65 years. How much of the result is terroir and how much comes from vine age, plant material and farming is impossible to separate.
A wine for the long haul: ten years minimum, then decades. Serve at 16-18°C with roast venison, truffled poultry or aged hard cheese.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
