Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis Cuvée des Grives 2021

Cuvée des Grives is one of the Ponsot family's founding wines, first picked in 1872 from a single plot at the very top of the Morey-Saint-Denis slope.

The name is the French for thrush. The 0.62-hectare parcel lies directly behind the domaine's Petit Château, in the village-classified section of Monts Luisants, immediately above the premier cru part of the same climat. Monts Luisants is split three ways between village, premier cru and, at its upper reach, the Clos de la Roche grand cru. At 350 metres the site is high for the Côte de Nuits, where most village vineyards sit around 150 metres lower, and the ground is extremely rocky, covered in Comblanchien limestone scree. Shade and cool air drifting down from the forest above extend the ripening period. The result is a village Morey with a savoury, perfumed and distinctly mineral cast rather than obvious weight.

Ready after a few years and holding well for a decade; serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or grilled mushrooms.
